St Thomas, VI

Day 5 St. Thomas We decided to visit the city for some shopping. Yes, more shopping! We shopped in Nassau. When at sea they gave talks on you guessed it, shopping! We shopped in Old San Juan. We even shopped on board the ship. Now St. Thomas. HELP! After seriously considering a mad dash into the mountains to hide I gave in. Wasn't going to miss the food on the Maasdam for anything.

We had from approximately  8 AM to 4 PM. We took a taxi to the city. Mary bought a bunch of stuff as I took some pictures. The place looked very poor and the street hustlers were  annoying.  Trying to sell everything from tee shirts to tours of the island and virtually everything in between. Felt safe thought.  After we finished shopping we returned to the ship to drop off Mary's goodies. We then left the ship to visit the  mall right by the dock for more you know what. While at the mall I sneaked away to use  an Internet Cafe to check for e-mail. This was the one and only time I accessed the Internet on this trip. The ship has Internet access but I didn’t need it.  We returned to the ship and watched the ship leave from the deck. Was very beautiful.  We had dinner in the Rotterdam Dinning Room. I had tuna steak and Mary had some kind of chicken thingy. We attended the magic show given by champion magician Greg Frewin. It was excellent! This guy was amazing. If only he could make the buffet pounds disappear. We retired for the night around 11:15 PM.

  1. As in any big city there is safety in numbers. We ran into more street hustlers here than San Juan and Nassau combined. A number of them are trying to sell you tours of the area at cheap prices. Not sure where they take you but I would use caution before going.

  2. Shopping and more shopping. Have a good idea what prices for the merchandise is in the States before coming here. May or may not be such a good deal.
