Nassau, Bahamas

Enough with the pictures. Lets SHOP!

July 29 Day two. The beginning of the shopping marathon known as a 7 day cruise. Up at around 6:30 AM. Went for a walk and coffee while Mary was still sleeping.  We disembarked for Nassau around 9 am. Went to town for some shopping and sightseeing. People on the island were more friendly than we expected. Bought some souvenirs and I purchased my obligatory Cuban cigar. We walked around for a little while longer and returned to the ship at around 12 PM. Had a great buffet lunch consisting of avocado stuffed with crab, catfish something or other, and assorted other goodies. Relaxed for awhile.  Went shopping on the ship and returned to prepare for formal night tonight. Perfect timing since it is our 30th wedding anniversary today!!  Had dinner in the Rotterdam Dining  Room. I had Shrimp appetizer, Lobster brisk, and Salmon as a main course. Mary had basically the same with a Filet Minion for a main course. Afterwards we attended the Maasdam Cast show in the Rembrandt  Lounge. It was a ’50s theme. The show was entertaining enough.. After strolling around for a while we decided to retire for the night around 11:15 PM. We are heading for Puerto Rico and should arrive early Weds morning.

  1. People will approach you on the streets trying to sell stuff or braid your hair. I found that a polite but firm "no thanks" worked fine. Be alert and stay on the well traveled areas. We are from Miami so we consider ourselves battle harden veterans.
  2. Straw market is a price haggler's dream. Hard to go a couple of steps without someone trying to sell you something.
  3. Shopping is a short walk from the pier. Did not need a taxi in Nassau.
  4. Disney Wonder was also in port. No problems with overcrowding in town though.
